 'L'amour' acrylic on salvaged wood

'Mad love' acrylic on salvaged wood

Having just come back from a lovely long weekend in Scotland I feel fully refreshed. Soon as I was home I got into painting the lovely Harley Quinn (*girly geeky fan girl swoon). The reason being that I'm hoping that in August I'll have my first stall at a comic convention! 'Megacon' In Carlisle, in the north of England.
Expect a prolific amount of 'geeky' wonders to appear on my various websites (keep checking my facebook as I seem to keep that the most up to date https://www.facebook.com/pages/Victoria-Mortuary-Art-and-Illustration/119799881529288).
The upper painting was a commission piece. I thought I may have struggled to begin with - as I've little experience in painting men), but overall I was quite happy with how Gomez turned out.

A selection of my latest creations. I've had the good news that I passed all my exams, which means I can officially teach the joys of mortuary protocol and autopsy procedures! It also means that now I can finally settle back into my artwork and get serious about things.
Today I actually submitted some work to a magazine which required me to write an 'artist statement'. Something that I loath doing - however - it's a necessary evil. I shall post it at some point and you can see for yourself how terrible I am at describing my own work.
Anyway, these images are a selection of various projects I'm working on. There is a portrait of Claudia from Interview with the vampire (of course a huge Anne Rice fan!). Enough babbling for now.

Got quite the mix here... on going concerns - bottom is a picture of Sarah from the Jim Henson film 'Labyrinth'! (Love that film). Then we got band poster design thumbnails, a new painting and another band related design idea....

So I've been away for quite a while, trying to recoup after my tedious anatomy exams.... Having a pathologist asking your random anatomical and physiological questions is rather stressful. In any case, here are a few sketched I've done recently... A little bit different! Enjoy.

'Moira' - acrylic on salvaged wood. It's not finished - but it was much needed. I've had a rather crappy few days and instead of studying the pancreas, Moira puffed into my head firstly in sketch form, and then into a painting. Based upon the very sensual and overtly sexual 'maid' character from the American horror story 'murder house' series. Enjoy.

Time for some anatomy...

I must apologize for my lack of posts/drawings/paintings. I can assure you all that more will be on the way in a couple of weeks, but at the moment I have anatomy exams in early April and for now revision and study is my priority. I can't wait to get back to painting, I also have some exciting commission work on which I'm looking forward to sharing.

'Let them eat cake' work in progress. Acrylic on reclaimed wood (the back of an old wardrobe I do believe). It's about 1x1.5 ft in size. Much more to be done, but as I am away for the next 6 days on a course for work, she will have to remain unfinished for now. TBC...

And another from today. Not the best photo - but never mind. (Yes I need to work on my typography)

'The end of Winter' - acrylic on salvaged wood.

I like to use reclaimed pieces of wood to paint on, to give something that otherwise might have ended up on a fire a new lease of life. Only issue being that the surface is usually quite rough, and it's difficult to get a highly polished finish (or it is for me anyways). Practice, practice practice!

Day 5 - post-it not challenge

Painting today did not go well.. therefore I have nothing new to show other than this. Bare with me, tomorrow is another day!

Top - Acrylic on wood "I will bury you"
Bottom - Day four of the Gloop Collective 'post-it challenge'

Monday, 3 March 2014

It's the misadventures of Octopus Girl. Or maybe it's just day three of the https://www.facebook.com/gloopcollective 'Gloop Collective' post-it challenge!

Sunday, 2 March 2014

This is day 2 of the post-it challenge. I know I should have got some painting done, but I've been so busy today with domestic crap that I really didn't have the chance.Pah!

Saturday, 1 March 2014

Today marks the beginning of the 'post-it' challenge with the guys from the 'Gloop' collective (check them out on facebook. It's fairly simply, just do a drawing a day on a post-it. I'm not really loving this one - but - it's a start and I forced myself to post it. Sooo, although I've not done any painting - instead spending some quality time with my lovely little family - I have no excuse to not be uploading one of these for the next 31 days. Enjoy!

Friday, 28 February 2014

I've not really managed to do much this week. I had tried painting yesterday, and it went horribly wrong - therefore I decided that today I would quickly post this oldish sketch up. It's called 'Balance' and is part of a 'word of the week' blog group I occasionally join in with. Interesting and talented group that run it - check them out (when I find and post the link).

'Post Mortem' acrylic on wood. This is actually a bit of a self portrait, as I earn a living (when not painting etc) working in a public mortuary. A big part of my position is evisceration, removing all organs for a pathologist to dissect and exam. The body is then reconstructed and so on. So the incision you see here and the reflection of the tissue is my daily routine, painted slightly less graphically perhaps - but you get the idea! One more in this series to come.

Until death...

I very almost sat back and didn't pick up a paintbrush this afternoon. I'm so glad I changed my mind, as this was the outcome. Really love her, and she goes lovely next to the previous painting too. I'm hoping to arrange for some prints to be available at some point. I shall keep you posted.

I know I always seem to put up multiple pictures of the same image, it's usually because I can't decide which one looks better. In any case, this is my first acrylic painting in a few weeks, and I can really see an improvement and the direction I want to go in. There are areas that need vast improvement, such as researching/stock images to reference from.. But all in good time. It's practice and the most important thing is that I'm producing something.

Thursday, 20 February 2014

Well I honestly can't describe to you how happy I was too see the post lady today! All my beautiful little cards arrived. The printing quality is lovely and they are all made from 100% recycled, recyclable paper (check me out, being all ethical). So there we go, a little - beautifully printed - piece of  myself to all who end up with one of these babies!

Conventional take on 'Alice'. Perhaps something a little 'darker' may evolve at a later date.. Maybe even a larger scale - more in depth - painting too.

Drop me an email for all inquiries.

'Something old'. These little paintings are all for sale. Check out Victoria Mortuary on Etsy. Also, I have plans for these too be developed into larger - more detailed paintings..

Tuesday, 18 February 2014

Having worked - most the day - in a busy mortuary, I took a few minutes of my break (as I often do) to do some inane and random scribbling. This has now become the starting point for an idea I would like to explore for the 'Something borrowed, something blue, something old and something new' series I seem to have started. Progression shall /hopefully/ follow!

Saturday, 15 February 2014

'Something borrowed' water colour and pencil on paper.

Initially the last couple of drawings were supposed to stand in their own right - and they do - but they are also part of a larger 4 part series 'something blue', 'something borrowed'... 'Something old' and 'Something new' to go!
